Stepping Through History: Black Rhythm, Movement, and Dance

Experience the power of stepping into this interactive celebration of Black history and culture. This workshop highlights the storytelling tradition of stepping, rooted in the legacy of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The program includes a performance by members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first Black fraternity founded in 1906, and an invitation for students to learn and perform steps together, a moment of connection and joy. Designed for K-5, middle school, and high school audiences alike, this assembly combines history, performance, and participation, leaving a lasting impression while honoring the contributions of Black culture in American society.

From Swing to Swagger: Dancing Through Black History

Take a journey through the evolution of Black dance, from the lively Lindy Hop to the cultural phenomenon of hip-hop. This interactive workshop explores how Black dance has shaped American culture through movement, rhythm, and storytelling. Students will learn the history behind iconic dance styles and have the chance to try them out, creating a fun and educational experience. Perfect for K-5, middle school, and high school audiences, this program celebrates Black Americans' innovation, creativity, and contributions through the art of dance. This program is perfect for Black History Month or as part of any art, dance, theater, or interdisciplinary curriculum.
